The MutualRx Mission
Our Mission

Our mission is to provide leading-edge pharmacy benefit administrative services to Plan Sponsors in a collaborative partnership. This is a true partnership where the Client Plans receive the benefit of being equity owners in the PBA, thus eliminating any hidden agendas or profit incentives not aligned with the plan or plan member’s interests.

Mutual Rx pursues its mission of managing a plan sponsor's pharmacy benefit by focusing on 6 dimensions of improvement:

  • Protect the Member’s Health
  • Control Costs
  • Create Optimal Plan Performance
  • Demand Vendor Accountability
  • Help Plans Meet Their Fiduciary Obligations
  • Maximize Value
MutualRx Mission Prism

Disintermediation, in its purest form, is the reduction in the use of intermediaries between producers and consumers. It facilitates the removal of intermediaries in economics from a supply chain or cutting out the middlemen in connection with a transaction or a series of transactions. Instead of going through traditional distribution channels, which had some type of intermediary (such as a distributor, wholesaler, broker, or agent), companies may now deal with customers directly, for example via the Internet. Hence, the use of "factory direct" and "direct from the factory" have come to mean the same thing.

In the PBM space, there is no longer a need to use a traditional PBM as the middleman to your Member’s prescription drug transactions. The lack of pricing transparency in this space is legend, and even with so-called “pass-through” contracting, Plans and their members are still subject to the black-box pricing algorithms, fuzzy contract language and nonsensical business practices utilized by the vast majority of PBMs.

The technology is now available to unbundle the comprehensive PBM service package and fulfill the mission through independent or direct-service channels. This is particularly true for publicly-traded PBMs who need to support bloated overhead and millions of Wall Street investors.

Additionally, commissions to brokers, consultants and other intermediaries can be eliminated by going direct and becoming your own PBM through MutualRx, thereby improving operating margins or reducing prices.

The future of PBMs will be dramatically different, as more-and-more plan sponsors recognize they don’t have to pay inflated drug prices or receive inferior service and questionable drug-mix decisions. We can communicate directly with members and their physicians so they have the information necessary to make better prescription drug choices.  And since it is your PBM, there will be no question that the formulary decisions are designed with your Members' best-interest in mind.

This "separation of powers" advantage is particularly true when it comes to Specialty Drugs, which are already at 50% of drug spending for a number of plans and will continue to escalate.  If ever there was a component in your prescription drug benefit that can produce immediate cost savings and increased member satisfaction, it is in the Specialty Drug arena! Mutual Rx’s experts in Specialty Drugs will create and manage a customized Specialty Drug program for your Plan and your Members which your Plan will own, and not a PBM that wants to use Specialty as one of their leading profit centers!
